NASA has initiated an emergency intervention to rescue the Swift Observatory by utilizing a demonstration mission from Katalyst Space Technologies. The satellite, which has been operational since 2004, is descending toward Earth’s atmosphere at an accelerated rate caused by recent solar storm activity. While standard satellite decommissioning usually involves controlled reentry, this effort attempts to extend the craft's life for further gamma-ray burst research.
