Cookie Policy

This policy explains how Ajako Taja uses cookies and similar technologies, what data they collect, and how you can control them.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognize your device on return visits and remember certain information about you.

In addition to cookies, we may also use similar tracking technologies such as:

  • Local storage: a browser-based storage mechanism used to persist preferences.
  • Session storage: temporary storage that clears when you close your browser tab.
  • Pixel tags / web beacons: tiny transparent images used to track page visits or email opens.
  • Device fingerprinting: used only to the extent necessary for security (bot detection).

This policy applies to all of these technologies collectively referred to as "cookies."

2. Why We Use Cookies

Ajako Taja uses cookies for several core purposes:

  • To keep you signed in between page loads.
  • To remember your reading preferences and personalization settings.
  • To understand how visitors use the platform so we can improve it.
  • To measure which content resonates most with our audience.
  • To prevent fraud and abuse (e.g., bot detection).
  • To comply with legal obligations where applicable.

3. Essential Cookies

These cookies are strictly necessary for Ajako Taja to function. Without them, core features would not work. They cannot be disabled.

4. Analytics Cookies

Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with Ajako Taja, including which pages are most visited, where traffic comes from, and how long users stay on the platform. This data is aggregated and does not personally identify you.

Tools we may use

  • Vercel Analytics — privacy-friendly analytics built into our hosting platform. Collects page view counts, device type, and referrer in an anonymized form.
  • Plausible Analytics — a cookie-free, GDPR-compliant analytics service. Does not use cookies or store personal data.
  • Google Analytics (if enabled) — collects anonymized usage data. We configure GA with IP anonymization and do not share data with Google for advertising purposes.

You can opt out of analytics cookies via your browser settings or the opt-out tools in Section 9. Opting out does not affect your ability to use the platform.

5. Preference Cookies

Preference cookies allow Ajako Taja to remember choices you have made and provide a more personalized experience. These include:

  • Theme preference (light or dark mode).
  • Language and locale settings.
  • Dismissed banners and notification preferences.
  • Filter settings on content pages (e.g., selected categories or date ranges).
  • Cookie consent choices.

If you disable preference cookies, some personalization features may not work as expected, but the platform will remain fully functional.

6. Social Media Cookies

When you use social sharing buttons on Ajako Taja (e.g., to share a story to Twitter/X, Facebook, or LinkedIn), those platforms may set their own cookies on your device. These third-party social cookies are subject to each platform's own privacy and cookie policies.

We do not control these third-party cookies and are not responsible for them. We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of the relevant social platforms.

  • Twitter / X: x.com/privacy
  • Facebook: facebook.com/privacy
  • LinkedIn: linkedin.com/legal/privacy-policy

7. Advertising Cookies

Ajako Taja serves advertising through Google AdSense (publisher ID: ca-pub-2591058622318072). As part of ad delivery, Google and its partners may set advertising cookies on your device, including:

  • __gads, __gpi — set by Google to store ad preferences and measure ad performance.
  • DoubleClick / DSID — Google's ad-serving cookie used to track conversions and deliver targeted ads.
  • IDE — used by DoubleClick to record and report user actions after viewing or clicking an ad.
  • test_cookie — a short-lived cookie to check that your browser supports cookies.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to our site and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising at any time:

  • Google Ads Settings: google.com/settings/ads
  • Network Advertising Initiative opt-out: optout.networkadvertising.org
  • Your Online Choices (EEA users): youronlinechoices.com

For more information about how Google uses data from sites that use their advertising products, see google.com/policies/privacy/partners.

8. Third-Party Cookies

In addition to our own cookies, some features of Ajako Taja involve third-party services that may set their own cookies. These services and their respective policies include:

  • Supabase (supabase.com/privacy) — our database and authentication provider.
  • Vercel (vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy) — our hosting and edge delivery platform.
  • Content Delivery Networks (CDN) — used to serve images and static assets efficiently.
  • Embedded media players (YouTube, etc.) — if embedded video content is present.

We work to minimize third-party cookie usage and regularly review our vendor relationships.
